Terrorist T-Shirt for Sale

October 23, 2006

Have any of you seen this new t-shirt? Terrorist T-ShirtIt’s great for a Halloween costume… just a few days to go. I think it’s horrible, though a friend of mine here at work thinks it is hilarious and he says he would buy it. If you take into consideration that on a normal day he looks like a terrorist to begin with, maybe that isn’t such a good idea.

I chuckled at the shirt at first, too, and the site owners do have a disclaimer: “For all you morons who are just stupid, this t-shirt is a joke, a gag, and meant for fun. There are no real explosives. Harm is not our intent.”  I went on their website to see what else they have written, and to see if they have any comments on their site. Of all the comments on the page, none of them were from a city or country that has been the victim of a terrorist attack.  This got me thinking: you know how they say that African Americans can call each other the “N word” but other people can’t? Or how Jews can call Jews names, but others can’t?

Well, it feels to me that the only people who should be making fun of explosives belts are those in London and Madrid and Israel, not those in Boise, Idaho and Chicago, Illinois.

  1. living in a city where people are checked going into the grocery or taking a train or just going to a mall daily in pat down searches.
Where terror alerts come like weather or traffic reports I thank you for pointout the in human thing that made these shirts or commented have probably nevr experianced
this kind of thing first hand.
I have – too many times as journalist – gone to the scene of these things and report back.
seeing this a halloween costume while brings some expliatives I like to put in print towards the creators of the shirt- i do agree they deserve more.
perhaps one day they will understand.
But for now its a joke- a politcal statement- a wierd sense of humor.
what can I say there are sick people out there who will do anything for buck- even to profit from the missery of others.

  2. Jesus Christ mikeinmanila, for someone who claims to be a journalist, your writing is atrocious. I hope you have a good editor.

As for your comments about people who enjoy the shirt being “sick”, you’re ignorant.

“Terrorism” is a favored tool of the tyrant for forcing a society into compliance. Hitler used it. Mussolini used it. Stalin used it. It’s always a nebulous, impossible to define enemy that is used to cow the populace and convince them of the neccesity of sacrificing their freedoms. There have always been terrorists, there will always be terrorists. Horrible things will happen, we can’t prevent that. What we can prevent is scumbags from using these terrible things to take away the very freedoms they’re claiming to defend. The people you should be mad at are the war profiteers and gluttons who are really profiting off these terrible acts, and the deaths of our soldiers overseas. Instead you want to piss and moan about a t-shirt?? A shirt that calls attention to this mad, dangerous hysteria, a shirt that has a chance to make people think how stupid this nationwide panic really is? Maybe even help rectify the situation? A shirt that maintains a sense of humor in the face of the dark situation we’re living in?

Of course you do. Who’s “sick” again?

  3. this is disgusting. people actually run into a market full of women and children and blow them selves up.

  4. I agree – that’s why I posted here. It’s amazing to me that someone would even think of it.

  5. oh my gd

  6. i agree with tsf, horrible things will happen to everyone eventually, and if they don’t they’re lucky. terrorism is an idea that only hurts the people that believe it, i’m not saying it doesn’t exist. there are people who do these horrible things but you can only terrify yourself; let yourself be terrified. let’s face it, everyone is out to get you. cover your own a** and don’t be afraid of life, enjoy what you have left. i know it all sounds cynical but its not. the politics involved only embrace terrorism and let it grow, that is the sick part.
